Gujarat bridge collapse: PM Modi to visit Morbi tomorrow where bridge collapse killed over 130

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three-day visit to Gujarat, which is being completed tomorrow. He will go to Morbi tomorrow and meet the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge accident. The PM will also meet the injured admitted in the hospital. In this painful accident that happened on Sunday evening, 134 people have died and 20 people have been seriously injured.

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra will go to Morbi tomorrow and meet the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge accident. The PM will also meet the injured admitted in the hospital. In this painful accident that happened on Sunday evening, 134 people have died and 20 people have been seriously injured, who are being treated at Morbi Civil Hospital.

At the same time, about 200 people have been rescued. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi got emotional by mentioning the Morbi bridge accident in his address on the occasion of National Unity Day near the Statue of Unity on Monday. He expressed “sad” over the collapse of the colonial-era pedestrian bridge and expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.

PM Modi said in an emotional voice, ‘I am in Ekta Nagar but my heart is with the victims of Morbi. I have rarely experienced such pain in my life. On one side there is a heart full of pain and on the other side the path of duty. PM Modi said that the government is with the bereaved families in every way in this hour of grief. The Gujarat government has been conducting relief and rescue operations since yesterday. The Center is also providing all possible help to the state government. Full vigilance is also being taken in the hospital where the injured are being treated.

Prime Minister Modi has already announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those killed in the incident from the PM Relief Fund. After this accident, questions were being raised on the Orewa company, which repaired the cable suspension bridge on the Machhu river.

An FIR was registered against Oreva Company and other responsible officers under sections 304, 308 and 114 of IPC. In this case, Morbi Police and Gujarat ATS have detained 9 employees of Oreva Company. According to the information received, to nab these 9 accused, Gujarat ATS, State Intelligence Department and Morbi Police had raided places.

The arrested accused include 2 managers of Orewa, 2 ticket clerks, 3 security guards and 2 repair contractors. All the accused have been detained under section 304, section 114, section 308. At present, everyone is being interrogated and arrest can be made by evening. It is known that the Orewa company had recently received the tender for repair and maintenance of the bridge.

According to the terms of the tender, the company was to maintain the bridge for the next 15 years after repair. This cable suspension bridge was opened to the public on 26 October after 7 months of repairs. Five days later, between 6:30 and 7 pm on October 30, a major accident occurred due to the breakdown of the bridge.
