Morbi: Morbi: BJP’s Lok Sabha member from Rajkot Mohan Mohan Kundariya said today that 12 of his relatives were among those killed in a bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Morbi town.

All are close relatives of his elder brother. He said that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the accident. “My elder brother’s brother-in-law’s four daughters, three of them’s husband and five children were killed in the accident. He said that he belonged to different villages in Tankara taluka and had gone to Morbi in the bus. The MP said, “Being a Sunday, they had gone for a picnic when this incident happened.

Kundariya himself visited the spot in Morbi after the accident and took stock of the rescue operation. Kundariya said that he believed that more people had reached the bridge than the capacity. Because of this this incident happened. He said that after the incident of bridge collapse, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is camping in Morbi itself. He said, “We will ensure that no one responsible for the loss of so many lives is spared.

At the same time, Gujarat Police has said in its FIR regarding the Morbi bridge accident that the Morbi cable bridge on the Machu river collapsed due to lack of repair work and maintenance, mismanagement or any other technical reasons. 141 people died in the bridge collapse on Sunday evening. In the FIR, the police have registered a complaint against the agency responsible for repairing the bridge, its management and those whose names were revealed during the investigation.

Morbi B Division Police Inspector P.A. Dekavadia said in the FIR that the bridge collapsed around 6.30 pm on Sunday and by the time the complaint was filed at 8.15 pm, 50 people had died and 150 were injured. The official has alleged in the FIR that the bridge was opened to the public without conducting a quality check or testing the load carrying capacity.

The police said that there was negligence in the matter and it appeared that this act was done intentionally. The accused have committed the offense of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. According to police department sources, so far three people have been detained for questioning in the case.
