TMC's national spokesperson Saket Gokhale has been arrested by the Gujarat Police in connection with the bridge accident in Morbi, Gujarat. MP Derek O'Brien has tweeted on his arrest.
New Delhi: Saket Gokhle, the national spokesperson of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and close to Mamata Banerjee, was arrested by the Gujarat Police on Monday from Jaipur Airport in Rajasthan. Gokhale is accused of spreading false news about Prime Minister Modi on the Morbi Bridge Collapse. The information about the arrest has been given by his party colleague and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien.
TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale claimed on 1 December 2022 that ₹30 crore was spent on the arrangements for PM Modi’s visit to Morbi in Gujarat after the bridge collapse tragedy. Gokhale posted a clipping of a Gujarati newspaper on Twitter, claiming that Rs 30 crore was spent for just a few hours for the PM’s visit to Morbi, in response to an RTI. After this, a case was registered against him.

TMC leader Derek O’Brien told that Saket Gokhale had reached Jaipur by taking a flight from New Delhi at 9 pm on Monday night. Gujarat police arrested him as soon as he landed here. Late at 2 o’clock in the night, he informed his mother about the arrest on the phone. Also told that the Gujarat Police is taking him to Ahmedabad.

According to the party, immediately after his arrest, he was given permission to make a call for 2 minutes. After this, all his belongings including mobile were confiscated. Derek O’Brien said, ‘A false case has been registered against Saket Gokhale in the Ahmedabad Cyber Cell regarding the Morbi bridge accident. All this cannot silence the voice of the All India Trinamool Congress and the opposition. Derek has also accused the BJP of vendetta politics.
