Gurugram: A head constable of the Gurugram Police was apprehended on Friday on charges of allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl who worked as a maid at his residence, according to police sources.
The accused, identified as Anup Singh, has been suspended from duty following the serious allegations. The case was registered after the girl’s aunt filed a complaint on Friday.
The victim’s aunt claimed that her niece had been employed as a maid at the head constable’s residence in the Old Gurugram area since November 1, as per the police report.
The complainant alleged that initially, everything seemed normal, but the situation took a dark turn when Anup Singh reportedly raped the girl while she was working at his house. The accused allegedly threatened to harm the victim if she dared to report the incident.
The case was officially registered at the Women’s Police Station (West) after the victim underwent a medical examination. Following the victim’s statement recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a city court, Anup Singh was promptly arrested.
The accused has been arrested and also suspended. The matter is being investigated, and we are questioning the accused head constable,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Against Women) Virender Vij.
This shocking incident adds to the growing concern over the safety of domestic workers, especially minors, and underscores the imperative need for swift and stringent action against those responsible for such heinous crimes. The police are diligently probing the matter to ensure justice for the victim.
