Guwahati: East Assam experienced hailstorms that lashed parts of the state on Monday night. Roads and trees were covered in ice in the Dibrugarh district. A video of the hailstorm was shared on social media by the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said in a statement that several houses in Dibrugarh’s Moran and Tingkhang revenue circles were also damaged.
He said that officials have been instructed to assess the damage caused by hailstorms. The state government is ready to provide all possible help, he added.
The temperature in most parts of the northeast has dropped, according to weather officials. Snow is falling in the upper reaches of Arunachal Pradesh, and rain is falling in parts of Assam.
“Due to remnants of western disturbances coming down to lower latitudes, parts of Assam and the rest of the NE witness this kind of weather during winter,” said scientist Sunit Das at the Guwahati office of IMD.
According to Das, the weather will not change until Tuesday.
The weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is that isolated areas will receive light snow, which will occur in the upper reaches of Arunachal Pradesh, and there will be light to moderate rainfall in all seven states in the region.
