Haldwani violence mastermind Abdul Malik arrested from Delhi by Uttarakhand police

New Delhi: On,Saturday, the police said that the alleged mastermind behind the violence in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, Abdul Malik has been arrested in Delhi by the Uttarakhand police. After his arrest, his lawyers have reportedly applied bail petition. The hearing for the bail plea is scheduled to happened on February 27.

New Delhi: On,Saturday, the police said that the alleged mastermind behind the violence in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, Abdul Malik has been arrested in Delhi by the Uttarakhand police. After his arrest, his lawyers have reportedly applied bail petition. The hearing for the bail plea is scheduled to happened on February 27.

Violence broke out in Haldwani over the demolition of an illegally built madrasa in the Banbhoolpura area. Locals resisted the move, leading to stone-pelting, arson and violent confrontations. Municipal Corporation property worth Rs 2.44 crore was damaged in the stone pelting and arson that took place at that time. Six people died and more than a hundred people, including police personnel and media persons, were injured in the violence according to the police information.

The Municipal Corporation had also sent a notice to Abdul Malik to compensate for this, but no response was received. Now the process of recovery has started through Tehsil. According to police, Abdul Malik had built the madrasa and vehemently opposed its demolition. His wife had also moved court, challenging the municipal corporation’s notice for demolition.

Tehsildar Sachin Kumar said that the process of recovery has started. Seven days’ notice has been given. If no response is received, action will be taken to confiscate the immovable property. So far 78 have been arrested in the February 8 violence that broke out over the demolition of an illegal madrasa in Banbhoolpura.

On Thursday, Nainital SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena told media that Abdul Malik and his wife Safia are among six people booked for criminal conspiracy and fraudulently using a dead man’s name for illegal plotting, construction and transfer of land.

Violence broke out on February 8 over the demolition of an illegally built madrasa in the Banbhoolpura area, with locals hurling stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police, forcing many police personnel to seek refuge at a police station, which the mob then set on fire.

According to the police information, Earlier in the day, Malik’s lawyer had filed an anticipatory bail plea at a Haldwani court. The lawyer questioned the reasoning behind naming Malik as the main accused. He claimed that Malik was not involved in the violence and had not been in the area for two or three days before the incident.
