New Delhi: Deepavali, also known as Diwali, is one of the major festivals of Hindu community that marks the victory of good over evil. This year, Diwali falls on November 4. Also known as the festival of lights, Diwali is celebrated in honor of Lord Ram, Laxman, and Goddess Sita’s return to Ayodhya after vanquishing Ravana and spending 14-years of exile in the forest.
Diwali is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm by Hindu community all across the world. People start their Diwali preparation days in advance by cleaning their houses and workplaces. On this day devotees decorate their homes, draw rangolis at the entrance of the house, light diyas, prepare sweets and mouth-watering dishes, buy new clothes. They also offer prayers to Lord Ram, Sita, and Laxman, and to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, to seek happiness, good health, and prosperity.
Though like all the other festivals, Deepawali also brings people closers as they visit each other and socialise. However, as the Coronavirus pandemic is not yet over, people are advised to enjoy a safe Diwali by limiting their social interaction and wish each other virtually through images, messages, cards, greetings, pictures, and GIFs!
