Haryana: BJP MP Rattan Lal Kataria dies at the age of 72

New Delhi: A very sad news has come to light for Haryana politics. Former Union Minister of State and BJP MP from Ambala Ratan Lal Kataria passed away in the early hours today (May 18). It is being told that Ratan Lal was admitted in PGI, Chandigarh for the past several days. Hearing the news of his demise, a wave of mourning has come in the whole of Haryana.

New Delhi: A very sad news has come to light for Haryana politics. Former Union Minister of State and BJP MP from Ambala Ratan Lal Kataria passed away in the early hours today after a prolonged illness. According to the information, Ratan Lal was admitted in PGI, Chandigarh for the past several days. Hearing the news of his demise, a wave of mourning has come in the whole of Haryana.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has expressed grief over the death of Ratan Lal Kataria. He tweeted and wrote, ‘I am deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Ratan Lal Kataria, former Union Minister of State and MP from Ambala. He always raised his voice in the Parliament for the benefit of the society and the progress of the people of Haryana. His departure is an irreparable loss to politics. May God give place to the departed soul in his holy feet and give strength to the family in this difficult time. Om Shanti!’

Let us tell you that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party had nominated Ratan Lal Kataria from the Ambala Lok Sabha reserved seat. From this seat, Kataria had lost to Congress’s Kumari Selja twice in a row, but in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kataria defeated Kumari Selja by 3 lakh 42 thousand votes by securing 57 percent votes. Earlier in 2014, he defeated Congress candidate Rajkumar Valmiki, while in 1999 Lok Sabha elections also won the election from Ambala Lok Sabha seat.

Let us tell you that Kataria was made the state vice-president of BJYM in 1980. After this, he traveled to the party’s state spokesperson, state minister, All India General Secretary of Scheduled Caste Morcha, national minister of BJP and was the state president of BJP from June 2001 to September 2003. In 1987-90, became the Parliamentary Secretary of the State Government and the Chairman of Harijan Kalyan Nigam. And from June 1997 to June 1999, he was the chairman of Haryana Warehousing.
