Under Section 51 of the Haryana Gram Panchayati Raj Act, which pertains to the suspension and removal of a sarpanch or panch, these showcause notices have been sent to several gram panchayats and their respective sarpanches across different districts.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Rewari, Mohd. Imran Raza, the concerned gram panchayats and sarpanches have been served with showcause notices. They are required to provide their responses, which will be evaluated before any further action is taken.

Reports have also surfaced indicating that some of these gram panchayats and sarpanches may be facing FIRs (First Information Reports) in Rewari district. The Superintendent of Police for Rewari, Deepak Saharan, referred inquiries to the Deputy Commissioner, noting the sensitivity of the matter.

The Director General of Police, P K Agrawal, was unavailable for comments. However, senior officials from the state government have emphasized that appropriate actions will be taken against anyone involved in disrupting communal harmony.

Previously, certain gram panchayats in Rewari, Jhajjar, and Mahendragarh districts had passed resolutions aimed at restricting the entry of Muslims into their villages, ostensibly in response to the Nuh communal violence. Haryana Development and Panchayat Minister Devender Singh Babli had clarified that such actions were not permissible under the law, and strong legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to issue such diktats.

The sarpanches involved argued that their intentions were to verify the identities of street vendors, particularly those from the Muslim community, in order to curb rising incidents of animal theft and maintain peace in the aftermath of the Nuh violence.
