Dehradun/Uttarakhand: Heart-stopping visuals coming from Uttarakhand where a school bus was washed away in the strong current of water in Kirora drain in Champawat, Himachal this morning. The driver and operator of the bus were seriously injured in this incident. Superintendent of Police Devendra Pincha said that at eight in the morning a private school bus in Tanakpur was going to pick up the children on Purnagiri road and during this time the bus got swept away while crossing the sprawling Kirora Nala due to heavy rain.

There were no children in the bus at the time of the incident. Bus driver Kamlesh Karki (40) and operator Yugal Kishore Pant (30) were rescued by a team of villagers, police, fire and state disaster relief force and were admitted to the community health center in Tanakpur, where both are in condition, he said. is said to be stable.

Fortunately, there were no school children on the bus. It seems that a huge disaster has been avoided. According to villagers, the school bus driver was asked to wait for some time as the water flow was high. However, he was driving the bus on the overflowing river road. At this time, the bus overturned due to the rush of water and was washed away in the river. A part of the school bus was damaged in the accident.

Uttarakhand is witnessing heavy rains for the past few days. Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for several districts of Uttarakhand for the next three days. Seven districts —Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar have also been put on alert in the wake of IMD’s warning.

Meanwhile, a cloudburst was reported today in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, which led to the erosion of several small water canals, according to sources.

The cloudburst occurred in Shalkhar village. Some vehicles were buried and some houses were damaged, the District Emergency Operations Centre said.

He said that after the incident, vehicular movement on this route has been stopped and police force has been deployed. Deputy District Magistrate Himanshu Kafaltia has told that the drivers have been instructed to be careful on other routes as well.
