Sugarcane is a type of perennial grass, just like bamboo. Sugarcane stem is known as a natural source of sugar.

India ranks second in terms of world sugarcane production, with Brazil being the first. Most of the sugarcane comes from Uttar Pradesh which produces more than 50% of this crop out of the national total production. Other major producers include Maharashtra and Karnataka.

How to incorporate sugarcane in your diet?
Raw: Raw Sugarcane stalks, which have a naturally sweet taste are eaten raw as a snack in Southeast Asia. But before consumption, ensure that the tough skin around the stalk has been removed.
Juice: Combine sugarcane stem extract with lemon juice and ginger to make this delicious drink, which comes with a multitude of benefits.
Sugarcane Pongal: In south India, the juice present in sugarcane stem is used to make Sugarcane Pongal, a sweet rice pudding that is eaten as a dessert.
Summer Drink: By combining sugarcane juice with other refreshing flavors like kiwifruit and mint you can easily whip up an easy summer drink that will keep the body cool.
Non-vegetarian Skewers: After marinating and making a paste out of your protein of choice, roll the non-vegetarian mousse on sugarcane stick in lollipop shape. Then deep fry and serve with hoisin sauce.

Hydration during winters: It is a known fact that in winter, people often forget to drink water. In that case, sugarcane juice, which is loaded with electrolytes can help, as long as it is served at room temperature.

Natural Diuretic: Studies show that sugarcane juice is a natural diuretic. This can be beneficial as such substances eliminate the risk of kidney stones and ensure that there is no infection in the urinary tract.

Strengthen liver: Ayurveda suggests that drinking sugarcane juice can strengthen your liver. As a result, it is suggested as a jaundice remedy.

Good for skin: Sugarcane contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids [AHAs], that are frequently used in skin care treatments. The AHAs can fight acne, prevent ageing and get rid of existing blemishes.

Aids in weight loss: The juice of this natural grass is high in dietary fibre, which has been proved to aid in weight loss. Moreover, even the natural sweeteners present in sugarcane juice have a low glycaemic index (GI).

Boosts dental health: The juice present in sugarcane stem has a high amount of phosphorus and calcium and it protects the teeth against decay. So, people who are afraid of getting cavities should consume this juice.
