People need to change their lifestyle such that they should not remain inactive or sit idle, avoid fatty foods, get out of their blankets or close rooms and step out in the sun, indulge in light exercise, and eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, which will definitely keep the blood pressure under control naturally.

People who have high blood pressure should be very careful. It is natural that during the winter the blood pressure tends to increase, says Dr Abhijit M Deshmukh, consultant physician at the Ruby Hall Clinic.

How to control BP in winter

Cut alcohol and caffeine intake

Limit alcohol and caffeine intake, as both increase heat loss from the body, which is responsible for high blood pressure. It is better to increase the intake of water and other hydrating foods.

Avoid junk food

Junk food is responsible for the increase in cholesterol levels, which could further lead to high blood pressure.

Wear warm clothes

Appropriate winter garments are necessary to prevent loss of body heat, which can lead to high blood pressure. Do light physical exercise for about half an hour, as people cut down their physical activity in the winter due to laziness, which is linked with high blood pressure.

Take vitamin D

Supplementation of vitamin D is important in this season because the levels of this vitamin dip during the winter, which leads to increased blood pressure.

Avoid pollution
