High Court Acquits Dera Sacha Sauda

Punjab and Haryana High Court has acquitted Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a murder case. This decision of the court has acquitted him of the charges related to the murder of Ranjit Singh. Punjab and Haryana High Court has given this decision while canceling the decision of CBI Court. Actually, Ram Rahim had appealed in the High Court against the decision of the CBI court. In 2021, the CBI court sentenced five convicts, including Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, to life imprisonment in the Ranjit Singh murder case. A division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Sureshwar Thakur and Justice Lalit Batra passed the orders while accepting the appeal filed by the Dera chief against his conviction.

In 2002, Ranjit Singh, a member of the Dera’s management committee, was shot dead. The Dera management suspected that Ranjit Singh had got his sister to write the anonymous letter of sexual exploitation of Sadhvi. Dissatisfied with the police investigation, Ranjit Singh’s son had filed a petition in the High Court in 2003 demanding a CBI investigation.

His appeals in the rape cases and the Ram Chandra Chhatrapati murder case are still pending, while he has been acquitted in the Ranjit Singh murder case. He is currently lodged in Sunaria jail of Rohtak.
