Today, on September 14, India celebrates Hindi Diwas to enrich Indian languages to establish them as languages of public administration, education and scientific use. Hindi is one of the state languages of India. On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Hindi is the name to unify the diversity of languages of India, the world's largest democracy.
New Delhi: On the occasion of Hindi Diwas today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended greetings to the people of the nation. Taking to Twitter, Amit Shah tweeted on Thursday, “India has been a country of diverse languages. Hindi unites the diversity of languages in the world’s largest democracy. He said that Hindi has been a democratic language. It has honoured different Indian languages and dialects as well as many global languages and adopted their vocabularies, sentences and grammar rules,” Shah said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended wishes on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. He took to X and said, “Best wishes to all my family members on Hindi Diwas. I wish that Hindi language will continue to strengthen the thread of national unity and goodwill.”

Hindi Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the date 14 September 1949 on which a compromise was reached—during the drafting of the Constitution of India—on the languages that were to have official status in the Republic of India. Written in the Devanagari script, the Constitution of India accepted Hindi language as the official language of India on 14 September 1949.
On 14 September 1953, India celebrated the first Hindi day (Hindi Diwas). About 425 million people speak Hindi as their first language and about 120 million people speak Hindi as their second language. The Hindi language is majorly spoken in states like Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Punjab. In terms of countries, Hindi is also spoken in Mauritius, Nepal, Fuji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago.
