New Delhi: Shivraj Patil’s statement on Gita-Quran has been turning out to be a contentious issue. The Hindu Sena wants to register an FIR against the former home minister as he has been ‘Abhramising the Hindu faith’.
The veteran Congress leader said that Lord Krishna urged Arjuna to go for jihad during the Mahabharata war.
The Hindu Sena said the comparison of the Quran with the Bhagwat Gita by Patil really hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus.
In a letter handed over to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Hindu outfit wanted to lodge an FIR against Shivraj Patil. The former home minister may be prosecuted under Sections 153, 153A, 153B, 295A, and 298 of the Indian Penal Code, 1863, for deliberately hurting Hindu sentiments.
The senior leader fueled controversy after he shared his views on jihad during a book launch in Delhi on Thursday. Speaking at the launch of Congress veteran and former Union minister Mohsina Kidwai’s biography, Shivraj Patil said, “It is said there’s a lot of discussion on jihad in Islam. Even after all the efforts, if someone doesn’t understand the clean idea, power can be used. It’s mentioned in the Quran and Gita. ”
Shivraj Patil added that “Shri Krishna gave lessons in jihad to Arjuna in a part of the Gita in the Mahabharata.”
The BJP slammed Patil’s remark, accusing him of being anti-Hindu.
