Srinagar: Hizbul Mujahideen’s top commander Bashir Ahmad Peer alias Imtiaz Alam was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Basheer has played an important role in mobilizing youth for terrorism in Kashmir and providing them with arms and ammunition. Bashir Mir was coordinating terror camps and launch pads from PoK and was active in Lepa sector for a long time.

According to sources, after the assassination of Bashir Ahmed, Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin offered the funeral prayers.

According to sources, intelligence officials told that Peer, a resident of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, was living in Pakistan for more than 15 years. Pir was involved in the activities of sending terrorists to Jammu and Kashmir through the Line of Control.

Peer was declared a terrorist by the Center on October 4 last year under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his role in terrorist activities.

According to the notification, Peer was associated with several online propaganda groups to mobilize ex-terrorists and others to expand the activities of Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba and other terrorist organisations.

Involved in infiltration from Pakistan

Bashir Ahmed was also accused many times of helping terrorists coming to Jammu and Kashmir by infiltrating from Pakistan. After this, he fled from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan and made Rawalpindi his base there. He used to sit there and work for Hizbul Mujahideen. Sitting in Rawalpindi, he used to provide logistics and other resources to the infiltrators and terrorists who reached Jammu and Kashmir.
