Early in the day, the union home minister made a visit to Shree Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad, where he offered prayers.
Makar Sankranti is one of the major celebrations in India, during which devotees honour the Hindu god Surya. The winter solstice comes to an end, and longer days begin on this day, which also happens to be the first day of the sun’s passage into Makara.
The festival is known as Uttarayan in Gujarat and marks the first day of the sun’s transit into Makara.
Gujarat is famous for the international kite festival. People gather with colourful kites on their terraces after finishing their morning prayers.
The festival has begun! During the time of kite flying on this day, people are frequently heard crying “Kai Po Che” to the losing team. Apart from this, several delicacies are prepared on Makar Sankranti. People get a chance to enjoy delicacies like chikki, which is prepared of sesame seeds and peanuts, and Undhiyu, which is made of winter vegetables.
Makar Sankranti is celebrated across the country with different names.
