Homebuyers in Noida & Greater Noida Threaten ‘No Registry, No Vote’ in Lok Sabha Polls

Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway areas, residents are taking a stand against pending property registries. The “No Registry, No Vote” campaign is gaining momentum as frustrated homebuyers demand action from authorities and politicians.

No Registry, No Vote’ in Lok Sabha Polls

The issue stems from delayed property registrations, affecting numerous group housing societies across the region. Residents, disillusioned by broken promises, have decided to withhold their votes unless their grievances are addressed.

Key grievances include

Delay in Registries: Residents cite prolonged delays in property registrations, some pending since as far back as 2016.

Unfulfilled Promises: Despite assurances from politicians, little progress has been made in resolving the registry backlog.

Collective Action: Homebuyers in various societies, including Gaur Saundaryam, Gardenia Glory, and Ajnara Homes, have united under the “No Registry, No Vote” banner.

Pushkar Kaushik, a resident of Gaur Saundaryam, highlights the frustration among homeowners, with over 300 flats awaiting registry since February 2021. Similarly, Dinkar Pandey from Ajnara Homes and Anuj Kumar Singh from Gardenia Glory express solidarity in their decision to boycott the elections unless their demands are met.

The situation is exacerbated by the staggering number of pending registries, estimated at around 1.15 lakh flats across the district. Despite recent efforts by authorities to expedite registrations under the Amitabh Kant committee relief package, progress remains sluggish.

Abhishek Kumar, president of NEFOWA, underscores the widespread discontent among homebuyers. While some progress has been made, lingering issues persist, such as the linkage of registries with builder dues.

As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the “No Registry, No Vote” movement serves as a poignant reminder of the power of collective action in holding authorities and politicians accountable. Unless concrete steps are taken to address their grievances, residents stand firm in their resolve to abstain from voting or choose NOTA as a form of protest.
