Police said the highway was opened for light vehicles on Thursday and had to be closed again on Friday due to landslides.
Meanwhile, a six-year-old boy was killed and several others injured when a stone fell on a car in the state’s Kullu district, police said today.
According to officials, four members of a family, including two children, were traveling in their car when stones and rocks pelted it on Friday.All four were taken to Zonal Hospital, Mandi, where the boy was declared brought dead due to head injuries.
Another child suffered an eye injury but is said to be out of danger, they said. The family hailed from Sundernagar in Mandi district and were on their way from Kullu when the incident took place.
The Shimla-Kalka route on National Highway-5 was closed following a landslide in Solan district of the state early Friday. This road was opened after a week on Thursday.
According to officials, over 200 roads are still closed across the state due to heavy rains and subsequent incidents of landslides and debris falling from hills.
State Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi said on Friday, “Over 200 roads are closed in the state and restoration work is underway, over 200 power supply schemes are also damaged. Our teams and officials are on the ground.”
