Huge tricolor put up at Indian High Commission building in response to Khalistani supporters

New Delhi: A huge tricolor again fluttered proudly at the Indian High Commission building in London soon after Khalistani supporters brought down the national flag outside the building to protest against the action against Amritpal Singh. A picture of the huge national flag hoisting at India House in Aldwych, London has gone viral, which is being liked by social media users.

Sharing the picture in a Twitter post, BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, “Jhanda uncha rahe hamara” – UK government should take action against the miscreants who tried to desecrate the Indian flag at the High Commission, London . Punjab and Punjabis have an excellent track record in serving/protecting the country. The handful of people sitting in Britain do not represent Punjab.”

Visuals of a Khalistani supporter pulling down the national flag enraged the nation and triggered strong reactions on social media. Now many have praised the bold action taken by a High Commission official who is seen throwing away the Khalistan flag. The Ministry of External Affairs also summoned British Deputy High Commissioner Christina Scott late on Sunday evening after the video of the Indian flag being pulled down went viral online.

The ministry demanded an explanation for the “absence of security” at the High Commission premises and said the UK government’s “apathy” to Indian diplomats and personnel was “unacceptable”. Lord Tariq Ahmed, Britain’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Development, tweeted that he was “appalled” by the attack on the Indian High Commission.

He said, “Shocked by today’s attack on the Indian High Commission in London. This is a completely unacceptable act against the integrity of the mission and its staff. The UK government will always take the security of the Indian High Commission very seriously.”
