Lucknow: On Wednesday, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches across 10 states against human trafficking racket. Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir are among the states being searched by the NIA in the cases.
An official said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday detained a Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar during its raids at multiple locations in Jammu and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The raids are also underway at the residential premises and other locations of suspects linked to these cases in close coordination with state police forces.
The official said that the raids were restricted to slums housing Myanmar immigrants and were conducted in connection with a case related to violation of the Passports Act and human trafficking. NIA’s multiple teams started raids in the 10 states early Tuesday based on specific inputs against suspects involved in the crime.
The official said that Zaffar Alam was taken into custody from his temporary residence in the Bathindi area of Jammu around 2 am, while another accused is on the run. As per sources, over four dozen locations are being searched by the NIA sleuths in these 10 states to unearth the racket of human traffickers having international links.
