Hyderabad launches free 1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots

Hyderabad: Hyderabad yesterday initiated a step towards becoming a smart city by launching 1,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots in order to provide better facilities to the people.

The Telangana government along with telecom service providers had worked on the Hyderabad City Wi-Fi project and had launched it yesterday, which offers 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi to people with an assured speed of 5-10 Mbps.

While speaking to the media, Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan went on to say that another 2,000 hotspots would be added in two months.

He further added that it will benefit businesspersons, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, students, women and tourists.

It is an Rs 300-crore project that has service operators and infrastructure providers including Airtel, ACT Fibrenet, and BSNL as partners.

Greater Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, who inaugurated the project stated: “Wi-Fi will set another example making Hyderabad a truly connected city even on the digital front.”
