Hyderabad’s Karachi Bakery Under Scrutiny for Selling Expired Products; Officials Dispose of Rusks and Biscuits

In a recent crackdown on food safety violations, the Commissioner of Food Safety for Telangana unearthed a slew of infractions at renowned eateries and food stores in Hyderabad. From expired products to improper labeling, multiple establishments were found to be in breach of FSSAI regulations, raising concerns over consumer safety.

Discarded Expired Products and Unlabelled Items

At Karachi Bakery, a renowned name in the city, authorities discarded expired stocks of rusks, biscuits, candy, chocolate cakes, toasts, and buns worth ₹5,200. The absence of use-by dates on pastries and cakes further raised concerns, highlighting violations of FSSAI regulations. Additionally, the discovery of multiple unlabelled products underscored a breach of the FSSAI Act.

Hygiene Concerns and Contaminated Food

During inspections in the Himayatnagar area, Clove Vegetarian Fine Dine was found guilty of storing expired products such as cheese, syrup, ATC spices, sandwich bread, and brown sugar, all promptly discarded. Moreover, the presence of live cockroaches in the ice cream storage unit and fungal infestation in carrots sounded alarm bells for hygiene standards.

FSSAI Regulations: Upholding Food Safety Standards

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of food products consumed by the public. Established under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006, FSSAI mandates stringent regulations covering food labeling, safety standards, and hygiene practices.

Enforcing Compliance and Protecting Consumers

As authorities crack down on violations and enforce FSSAI regulations, the focus remains on upholding food safety standards and protecting consumer interests. By addressing lapses in labeling, hygiene, and product quality, regulatory bodies aim to safeguard public health and ensure transparency in the food industry.
