LUCKNOW: Several Income Tax raids are being conducted on Saturday morning at the residences of various Samajwadi Party leaders. Houses of close associates of Akhilesh Yadav are being raided by the IT department.
News agency reported that the Income Tax department conducted searches at various places in Uttar Pradesh. Premises of RCL Group promoter Manoj Yadav and his residence in Mainpuri and premises of Rajiv Rai in Mau, are some of the places where the IT Dept is conducting their raids.
Income tax officers had reached the house of Manoj Yadav with a convoy of 12 vehicles. His entire house is surrounded by security forces. No one is allowed inside the house. Income Tax Department officials have been questioning people at home for more than two hours, as per sources.
“This is the I-T department. I have no criminal background or black money. I help people and government didn’t like it. This is a result of that. If you do anything, they will make a video, register an FIR, you’ll fight a case unnecessarily. There is no use to let procedure complete,” said SP leader Rajeev Rai.
The raid has been going on since 7am at the residence of Rai at Sahadatpura of Mau district.Searches at the residence of Akhilesh Yadav’s close aide Manoj Yadav have been going on since early morning.
The raids come at a time when the state is all set for the election and Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav has been taking on the BJP over several of its projects.
Rajeev Rai is the national spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party. His personal website describes him as the most important person in Team Akhilesh when the party won the election in 2012. He was the Lok Sabha candidate for Ghosi in 2014. Rajeev Rai is also the founder and chairman of AVK Group of Institutions, a chain of institutions in Bengaluru.
Rajeev Rai has also been conferred a doctorate degree by the University of Ballsbridge in the field of education, his website said.
