The long-range drones have the capability to cover entire borders with both Pakistan and China in a single flight. The squadron operating the Heron Mark 2 drone is known as the ‘Wardens of the North’ and is carrying out surveillance missions along the borders with both China and Pakistan.
The drones are equipped with satellite communication links and are the most advanced drones in the Indian Armed Forces. Four new Heron Mark-2 drones equipped with long-range missiles and other weapon systems. It is deployed at a forward air base in the northern sector, where the team news agency witnessed their operations.
Wing Commander Pankaj Rana, Commanding Officer of the Drone Squadron told media in an exclusive interaction at the base that Heron Mark 2 is a very capable drone. With this, the whole country can be monitored from one place. He further explained, “The drone can operate in any weather and any terrain to hit its target and complete the mission.”
