ICC on Friday revealed the immense prize money for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022; the winning team will be richer by USD 1.6 million, while the runners-up will take home half the amount.
New Delhi: The much-awaited T-20 World Cup is around the corner, and it will get underway on October 16 and conclude on November 13. The showpiece event is to be scheduled in Australia. All the teams are giving final shape to their preparation, including India.
Currently, Rohit Sharma’s side is busy with a bilateral T-20I series with South Africa. All the participating teams would like to lift the coveted trophy to fulfil the demands of fans, but hefty prize money has made the tournament more competitive.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday revealed the immense prize money for the T20 World Cup 2022; the winning team will be richer by USD 1.6 million, while the runners-up will take home half the amount. Meanwhile, the two semi-final losers will earn USD 400,000 from the USD 5.6 million total prize money.
Overall, 16 teams are taking part in the tournament, while eight teams will be eliminated at the Super 12 stage, and they will get USD 70,000 each. It is similar to the 2021 T20 World Cup: A win in each of the 30 games in the Super 12 phase will be worth USD 40,000.
Eight teams will make a direct entry to the Super 12 stage. These teams are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa.
The other eight teams have been put in two groups. Group A comprises Namibia, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and the UAE. Meanwhile, four teams are also in Group B: West Indies, Scotland, Ireland, and Zimbabwe. These teams will have to fight it out in the first round to qualify for the Super 12 stage.
For any win in the first round, prize money of USD 40,000 will be awarded, with the 12 matches amounting to USD 480,000. The four teams knocked out in the first round will get USD 40,000 each.
The grand finale will take place at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 13.
