Mumbai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday nominated Suryakumar Yadav and Smriti Mandhana for the T20 Cricketer of the Year awards for men and women, respectively. In the men’s section, the ICC also nominated Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza, England all-rounder Sam Curran, and Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, along with Suryakumar
In the women’s section, the ICC nominated Pakistan all-rounder Nida Dar, New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine, and Australia all-rounder Tahlia McGrath, along with Smriti Mandhana.
Suryakumar was sensational in the shortest format of the game this year, and he became the second batter to complete above 1000 runs in a year in the T20 format.
Surya scored a massive 1264 runs at a marvellous strike rate of 187.43 at the end of the year. He hit the highest 68 (6’s) maximums in this calendar year. He scored two hundreds as well. Suryakumar, ranked as the leading men’s T20 batter, received 890 rating points.
Meanwhile, in the women’s T20 format, Smriti Mandhana scored 594 runs in 23 matches this year. She became the fastest Indian woman batter to score a fifty (off just 23 balls). She was brilliant with the bat throughout the year.
