Ashwin earned the spot thanks to his recent performances. He took 6 wickets (3/57 & 3/59) in India’s emphatic win against Australia in the second Test of the ongoing series. After England’s close defeat against New Zealand in the Wellington Test, Anderson slipped to second place.

The 36-year-old Ashwin first achieved the honor of being the number-1 Test bowler in 2015. He has since returned to the top spot on several occasions. Three Indian players are in the top-10 in the Test bowlers’ rankings.

While Ravichandran Ashwin is at No.1, Jasprit Bumrah has gained one place. He has now reached number-4, apart from him Ravindra Jadeja is also at number-8. Ashwin took big wickets in India’s win in Delhi. He returned Marnus Labuchen and Steve Smith in the same over of the first innings. The evergreen off-spinner again took three top-five wickets in the second innings, while his spin-bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja troubled the rest of the Australian batsmen from the other end.
