As many as 25 courses by Indian universities have figured in the top 100 globally, according to QS World University Rankings by Subject. Three Indian institutes have secured their positions in the top 100 engineering and technology institutions across the World. The three Indian institutes are the Indian Institute of Technology- Bombay (IIT-B) at 49th rank, IIT- Delhi at 54th rank, and IIT- Madras at 94th rank. MIT, USA has retained its top position.
Moreover, IIT- Kharagpur has bagged 101st position followed by IISc Bangalore at 103rd rank, IIT- Kanpur, and IIT- Roorkee at 107th and 170th ranks, respectively. The latest edition of QS World University Rankings by Subjects was released on Thursday, March 4.
IIT Bombay secured ranks among the top 50 engineering colleges in QS World Ranking by Subjects 2021. It is the first time for any Indian Institute to secure a position in the top 50.
IIT-Madras is at 30th position for its petroleum engineering programme. IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur secured ranks for mineral and mining engineering in QS World Ranking by Subjects 2021.
The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is at number 78 for materials science and 93 for chemistry. IIT-Delhi has achieved top-100 ranks in electrical & electronic engineering (54th, down from 49th in 2020), computer science (70th), and mechanical engineering (79th).
IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Ahmedabad are in the top 100 for their business and management programmes.
Among Private Universities, O.P. Jindal Global University secured 76th rank for its Law course. Birla Institute of Technology and Science secured position for pharmacy & pharmacology in QS World Ranking by Subjects 2021.
Three Indian institutions are placed among the top 100 lists of engineering institutes in QS World Ranking by Subjects 2021. The rankings released today are based on the performance of 253 programmes at 52 Indian higher education institutions.
The number of academic disciplines considered in making QS World Ranking by Subjects 2021 is 51. Some of the engineering disciplines are chemical, petroleum, civil, mechanical. In comparison, other fields are law, development studies and arts.
