Roorkee: Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, celebrated its 175th Foundation Day on Friday, November 25, 2022. The institute commemorated the occasion by showcasing the lengthy and renowned history of IIT Roorkee and by releasing a commemorative stamp, coin, and coffee table book.

On this occasion, several dignitaries were present, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who served as the event’s chief guest. Apart from this, Vineet Pandey, Secretary, Department of Post, GoI, was the guest of honour, as per the press statement.

The event started with the hoisting of the flag, a speech on the historical aspects of the foundation day by Prof. B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, chairman of the board of governors at IIT Roorkee, and Prof. K.K. Pant, director of IIT Roorkee, and then the release of stamps and coins that highlighted the history.

The celebration of IIT Roorkee’s 175th Foundation Day has been continuing for the last one year. Numerous events on the academic, international relations, sports, research, alumni, and student outreach fronts were also part of the year-long celebration.

According to the press release, the Institute’s IITR@175 programme reached out to institutes within 200 kilometres of Roorkee for partnership, assistance in establishing labs, and funding from various governmental and non-governmental organizations. In April 2022, the TechSarthi Scheme was introduced to help the industrial facilities near Roorkee. On the sports front, athletes from the institute, BEG, NIH, CBRI, and a few other educational institutes in the Roorkee area participated in the 2022 Half Marathon, which was organised by the Institute Sports Council of IIT Roorkee on April 3, 2022.
