IMD alert heavy rains likely in this part of the country today, fishermen advised not to venture into the sea

Chennai: The Indian Meteorological Department forecast predicted heavy rains in Chennai and surrounding districts on Monday and Tuesday. The low pressure is very likely to maintain its intensity and move slowly west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 48 hours.

Chennai: The Indian Meteorological Department forecast predicted heavy rains in Chennai and surrounding districts on Monday and Tuesday. The low pressure is very likely to maintain its intensity and move slowly west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 48 hours.

According to the Skymet Weather forecast, “The depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has moved nearly northwestwards with a speed of 6 kmph during last 06 hours and lay nearly 600 km east of Karaikal and Centered 630 km south-east of Chennai. It is very likely to maintain the intensity of the depression during next 48 hours and move slowly towards north Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, south Andhra Pradesh coasts.”

According to the information, Light to moderate rain is likely to start from Sunday evening. On November 21, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet districts and Puducherry in Tamil Nadu. There is a possibility of heavy rains in Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet and Vellore districts on 22 November. Wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely along and off Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry coast and southwest Bay of Bengal, officials said.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till 23 November. Also, the Sky Met Weather website informed that the marked low pressure area over the central parts of South Bay of Bengal has concentrated in the north-west direction as a depression. This system will continue to move towards the coasts of North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh during the next two days, due to which rain has been predicted.
