The Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert for the entire state including Dehradun. Due to bright sunshine till Saturday morning, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 38.8 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, while the minimum temperature remained at 24.6 degrees Celsius. Not only in Doon, but also in Rishikesh, Haridwar, Roorkee and Doiwala areas, the scorching heat caused havoc throughout the day. Light clouds covered Dehradun and Mussoorie after 2 pm.
The maximum temperature of Udham Singh Nagar was recorded three notches above normal at 38.6°C and the minimum temperature at 25.9°C, two notches above normal. The maximum temperature of New Tehri was recorded two notches above normal at 28.9 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature was 16.8 degree Celsius, apart from this, in the lower areas of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Tehri, Uttarkashi, the heat caused intense sunlight throughout the day.
Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Centre, said that there is a possibility of rain, lightning, hailstorm and strong winds at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour in most areas of the state on Sunday. In view of the changing mood of the weather, Orange Alert has been issued on Sunday-Monday and Yellow Alert for three days thereafter. The indirect effect of cyclonic storm Viparjoy can also be seen in Uttarakhand. The cyclonic storm has moved ahead after hitting the coastal areas of Gujarat.
