Tamil Nadu: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast below normal rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next two weeks i.e. till December 8. Officials gave this information. IMD officials told media persons that the weather models show scanty rainfall. The Meteorological Department also said that isolated or light rain is likely till Tuesday.
The meteorologists also said that since there is no major weather system over the Bay of Bengal, Tamil Nadu is likely to receive heavy rainfall. From November 17 to November 23, the state has recorded only 3 mm of rain, while an average of 34 mm was expected during the period. The IMD said in a statement that 16 districts in Tamil Nadu have not received rainfall and 22 districts have received below average rainfall.
IMD in its extended forecast mentioned the possibility of a low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea around the second week of December. The IMD, however, said it was monitoring its impact on the state.
