IMD forecast predicts light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely over the western Himalayan region till February 21

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department forecast predicts light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely over the western Himalayan region till February 21, 2023. Meanwhile, a Western Disturbance in the form of a trough in the mid tropospheric westerly winds is about to knock. Due to this Western Disturbance, light to moderate scattered rain or snow is likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and isolated rain/snow over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till February 21.

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department forecast predicts light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely over the western Himalayan region till February 21, 2023. Meanwhile, a Western Disturbance in the form of a trough in the mid tropospheric westerly winds is about to knock. Due to this Western Disturbance, light to moderate scattered rain or snow is likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and isolated rain/snow over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till February 21.

The IMD said, ‘There is a possibility of a drop in temperature in the Jammu region from today. Temperature is expected to drop in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from tomorrow. In the coming few days, there is a possibility of rain in the northwestern plains including Punjab and Haryana.’ The month of February in the northern part of India is known for pink cold. The winter season is bidding farewell and the summer season is giving the sound of its arrival.

February is the time of spring i.e. autumn. But this time a strange game of nature is being seen. It seems that the cold has suddenly gone and instead of spring, summer has knocked directly. This time the record of highest temperature is being made in North India in the month of February. In Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla, the average maximum temperature on Sunday was around 29 degree Celsius, 11 degree Celsius above normal. This is the highest in Shimla in the month of February in the last 20 years.

Same is the condition of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. These states have started feeling the heat in February itself.

The IMD in its bulletin said, ‘Scattered thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on February 20, 2023.’ Meanwhile, 20 to 23 Light to widespread rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh and light rain over East Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during February.

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh on 22 February. No significant change in weather is expected over the rest of the country during the next five days. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 37-39 degree Celsius in many parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa. During the next two days, IMD has said that heat waves will blow at different places in Kutch and Konkan.

The highest maximum temperature of 31.5 degree Celsius was recorded in the capital Delhi on Sunday in February in 2 years. With the ‘abnormal’ rise in temperature this year, the maximum temperature was 7 degrees above the season’s average, the Meteorological Department said. The minimum temperature of the season was normal with 11.4 degree Celsius.

The IMD has forecast a rise of 0.5 degree Celsius in the maximum temperature today to settle at 32 degree Celsius. There will not be any significant rise or fall in the temperature in the coming week. There is no possibility of cloudy sky or scattered rain for most part of the week in Delhi and its surrounding areas. Light fog is expected in the morning.
