IMD forecast warns extremely heavy rainfall, floods likely over west and central India till August 9

New Delhi: Monsoon has reached its second phase in many states of the country. States like Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana are receiving heavy rains. At the same time, the rainy season continues in the states of North India as well. From Delhi to UP and from Punjab to Rajasthan, it was raining on the last day i.e. Friday. After which the weather in the capital is pleasant. The India Meteorological Department has warned that extremely heavy rains are likely over West and Central India on August 7, 8 and 9.

In view of the possibility of continuous heavy rains, an orange alert has been issued for the entire central and west India. This category of warning means that local authorities should be prepared to avert any rain-related disaster. The Monsoon Trough is active and lies to the south of its normal position. It will remain so during the next 4-5 days. A low pressure area is very likely to form over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 7.

A shear area is very likely to form over North Peninsular India in the middle troposphere levels around August 8. Heavy rains are very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Rayalaseema on Saturday and over Telangana, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala and Mahe from August 5 to 9 and beyond. A rain warning has also been issued for South Interior Karnataka during August 8 and 9.

According to the Meteorological Department’s report, very heavy rains have been said at different places in Telangana on August 8 and 9. At the same time, scattered heavy rains are likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa during August 5 to 9. Very heavy rain is also likely over Madhya Pradesh and Saurashtra and Kutch on August 8 to 9. in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh during 7th and 9th August; An alert has been issued for rain in Gujarat on August 5, 7 and 9 and in Konkan, Goa and Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra till August 9.

RK Jenamani, Senior Scientist, National Weather Forecasting Centre, said, “We are expecting extremely heavy rains and associated flooding over central India and west coast during August 7, 8 and 9. Local people and officials have to deal with the excessive rains. Must be ready.”
