IMD issues alert as ‘Very severe’ cyclonic storm Biparjoy likely to intensify further in next 24 hours

High waves have been seen at Tithal beach in Valsad on the Arabian Sea coast due to Cyclone Biperjoy. As a precautionary measure, Tithal Beach was closed for tourists till June 14. The IMD said the storm is likely to intensify further during the next 24 hours.

New Delhi: Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Biparjoy’ is very likely to intensify further during the next 24 hours and move north-northeastwards. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given this information.

Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Biparjoy’ over Arabian Sea near 16.0N and Long 67.4E at 11:30 am on 9th June, IMD said in a tweet. It is very likely to intensify further and move north-northeastwards during next 24 hours.

Tithal beach closed due to storm
High waves have been seen at Tithal beach in Valsad on the Arabian Sea coast due to Cyclone Biperjoy. As a precautionary measure, Tithal Beach was closed for tourists till June 14.

IMD’s advice to fishermen
Earlier, the IMD had forecast further intensification of cyclone ‘Biporjoy’ in the next 36 hours and also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea off the coast of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.

Yellow alert issued in these districts
Yellow alert has been issued for Friday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur districts of Kerala.

Significantly, the IMD had predicted the sea condition to be rough on June 10 and poor to very poor during June 11 to 14.
