Compared to Wednesday in Delhi, the fog increased again on Thursday. Due to this, the visibility level was recorded as low as 200 meters. However, the day temperature dropped further. Now Thursday (December 22) was the coldest day of the season.
New Delhi: In many states including Delhi, UP, Bihar, there has been dense fog in the morning and evening, due to which the visibility has decreased. Due to this, many road accidents are also happening. On the other hand, due to the fall in the minimum temperature, the cold has increased. The Meteorological Department has told that dense to very dense fog is going to cover Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh in the next 48 hours.
Talking about the weather of the last 24 hours, the minimum temperature in most parts was recorded near normal by 7-10 degree Celsius. Apart from this, cold wave conditions continued over Punjab, Haryana and Northwest Rajasthan. Dense fog was also observed in the states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand etc.
Weather update of southern states
The weather department on Thursday said that a depression has formed over the southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu which will move towards north-northwest in 24 hours and recurve towards west-southwest in the following 48 hours. This movement will lead the temperature to further dip in the coming days. Downpour is likely in the coastal, and Himalayan areas.
Punjab weather update
Yesterday, more than 10 districts in Punjab recorded lower temperatures than Shimla. As per the report by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Punjab dropped by 8 degrees Celsius.
Apart from this, cold wave conditions are going to form in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan from 24 December to 26 December. Apart from this, there are chances of strong winds in the hilly areas. For the next two days in Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh, there may be strong cold during the day.
States that will be affected by cold wave
The Meteorological Department warned that between December 23 and December 25, cold wave may persist over Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, and northern Rajasthan.
In Rajasthan—Sikar, Churu, Jhanjhanu Hanumangarh, and Shri Ganganagar—over the course of the next four days may continue to experience dense fog and a cold wave situation.
Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh
As per IMD, parts of Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness snowfall by December 25 or December 26. Cold wave is likely to continue in the state. The snowfall is likely to continue in Manali till December 28.
IMD data also indicates that dense fog is also likely to occur in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Rajasthan, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Tripura, South Assam, and Manipur. The amount of fog will likely to decrease the temperature in these states.
