IMD: Relief from cold wave in North India including Delhi-NCR, light rainfall predicted in these states

There is respite from the cold wave in North India including Delhi-NCR, but it may rain due to the arrival of Western Disturbance. The Meteorological Department has released the weather update for the next 5 days.

New Delhi: People have heaved a sigh of relief due to reduction in cold wave in North India including Delhi-NCR. The Meteorological Department has predicted a decrease in cold for the next few days. The minimum temperature in Delhi was 5.6 degrees on Thursday. At the same time, there is a possibility of Western Disturbance reaching the Himalayas on the night of January 20, due to which there may be light rains in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi between January 20-22.

The minimum temperature is in the range of 2-5 degree Celsius over parts of North Madhya Pradesh and isolated parts of Haryana and East Uttar Pradesh. The minimum temperature is likely to increase by about 2 degree Celsius over many parts of northwest India by Friday (January 20) and thereafter there will be no significant change during the subsequent days of the week. According to the Meteorological Department, people will get relief from the cold wave for the next 5 days.

Another active Western Disturbance is moving slowly. It is expected to reach the Himalayan region from 23 to 25 January. Due to this, there is a possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between January 23-26. There is also a possibility of scattered hailstorm in the western Himalayan region on 23 and 24 January.

Light to moderate rain and a hailstorm with winds gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour are predicted to lash northwest India, including Delhi, on January 23-24 under the influence of another western disturbance. Delhi has not recorded any rainfall this winter season so far. The Met department attributed it to the lack of strong western disturbances in November and December.

Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of rain in the plains as well. Light rain in some areas of Punjab on January 22, while light to moderate rain has been predicted on January 23. There is a possibility of rain on 24 and 25 January as well. It may rain in Delhi, Chandigarh and Haryana on 22 January. It will rain in some areas of western Uttar Pradesh on January 23, while in most areas on January 24. It may rain in eastern Uttar Pradesh on 24 and 25 January.
