IMF’s Gita Gopinath Commends India’s Message at G20 Summit; PM Modi Responds

Gita Gopinath, Deputy Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), had an exchange of pleasantries with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the dinner, which took place at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi as part of the 18th G20 Summit.

Sharing a photo with Modi, Gopinath congratulated him for the successful hosting of the G20 Summit, saying, “Congratulations Prime Minister @narendramodi on presiding over such a successful @g20org. India’s message of ‘one earth, one family, one future’ resonated strongly with all delegates.”

In response, Modi expressed his gratitude, stating that these efforts underscore the collective spirit of unity and progress. “Thank you for the kind words. It is an honor to host the G20 summit. Our efforts are a testament to the collective spirit of unity and progress,” Modi said.

Gopinath also took a photo with President Murmu at the G20 venue and praised her, saying, “Greatly honored to meet President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn whose life story is deeply inspiring.”

On the opening day of the two-day G20 Summit, Modi hosted leaders from over 30 countries and organizations, including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Several significant developments occurred on this day, including the unanimous approval of the Delhi Declaration, the formal inclusion of the African Union in the group, the establishment of a biofuel alliance, and the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IECC EC).

After the conclusion of the first day’s proceedings, President Murmu hosted a dinner for the heads of state from the G20 group, with approximately 400 guests in attendance.

India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 of the previous year and organized approximately 200 meetings in 60 cities across the country. The 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi serves as the culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings that took place throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies.
