Imphal: IAF scrambled two Rafale jets to search for ‘UFO’ sighted near airport

Manipur: The Indian Air Force on Sunday scrambled two Rafale fighter jets to search for an ‘unidentified flying object’ (UFO) near Imphal airport after receiving information that it was spotted. The UFO was spotted at Imphal airport at around 2:30 pm following which some commercial flights were affected on 19 November.

After receiving inputs about the presence of a UFO near the Imphal airport in Manipur, the IAF launched one Rafale from Hashimara but it could not see anything, top sources told media. “The aircraft equipped with advanced sensors carried out low-level flying over the suspected area to look for the UFO but it did not find anything there,” they said. After the first aircraft returned, one more Rafale fighter was sent for the search but the UFO was not seen around the area.

The defence sources further said that the agencies concerned are trying to find out the details of the UFO as there are videos of the UFO over the Imphal airport. The first aircraft returned to its base and another one was deployed towards the area to double check but it could also not ascertain anything on the location and nearby areas.

The defence sources further said that the agencies concerned are trying to find out the details of the UFO as there are videos of the UFO over the Imphal airport. The second aircraft also returned without registering any presence of any object in the air, the source said. In this regard, the Eastern Command of the Indian Air Force said that it activated its Air Defence response mechanism.

In a post on X, Eastern Command said, “IAF activated its Air Defence response mechanism based on visual inputs from Imphal airport. The small object was not seen thereafter.” The Rafale fighters of the Indian Air Force are deployed at the Hashimara air base in West Bengal and keep flying from different air bases in the eastern sector along the China border.

A CISF official said,“The UFO was visible with bare eyes moving westwards of the airfield till 4 pm.” International Airport in Manipur’s Imphal, were halted for several hours after the unidentified flying object was sighted hovering above the airport.

It should be mentioned here Rafale fighters recently also took part in the mega Air Force exercise Poorvi Akash along the China border where all major assets of the force participated along with the troops of the Army. The diverted flights included an IndiGo flight from Kolkata which was initially constructed ‘to hold overhead’. It was diverted to Guwahati after 25 minutes. The delayed flights left Imphal airport after receiving clearance after around three hours. The Indian Air Force Eastern Command at Shillong was also informed of the development.
