Sangli SP Dixit Kumar Gedam said that these sadhus were going from Bijapur to Pandharpur and some people thrashed them in Lawange village. However, after the information, the Umdi police reached the spot and got the injured sadhus treated.

The police is saying that people beat up the sadhus and the police of the local Umdi police station got them treated, but they left without registering a complaint and due to not getting a written complaint, the police arrested those who beat up. No action was taken against him. The SP of the district has also said to investigate after giving clarification after the video went viral.

This is not the first incident of assault on sadhus in Maharashtra. In 2020, a mob of 2 sadhus was lynched to death in Gadchinchle village of Palghar district of Maharashtra for this reason. Those sadhus were going to attend a funeral in Surat by sitting in a car.

“In the sadhus killing case in Palghar, then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s government meted out injustice to them. But the current Maharashtra government will not allow any injustice against any sadhu,” he said referring to the 2020 incident.
