Police have identified the deceased teacher as Janelle Fernandes. The body has been sent for postmortem at present, along with the police team is investigating the whole matter.
Mumbai: A painful incident is coming out from Malad, Mumbai. Here a 26-year-old teacher has died after getting stuck in the school lift. According to the information received from the police, the incident happened on Friday.
The police officer said that after getting information about the incident, the first injured teacher was taken to the hospital. The team of doctors at the hospital declared the teacher dead. Police have identified the deceased teacher as Janelle Fernandes. The body has been sent for postmortem at the moment as well as the police team is investigating the whole matter.
A senior police officer involved in the investigation of the case said that the incident took place at St. Mary’s English School located near Chincholi gate in Malad West. In the investigation so far, it has been found that at around 1 pm on Friday, Janelle Fernandes finished the class on the sixth floor of the school building.
She wanted to go to the staff room on the second floor. For this she pressed the lift button. When the elevator door opened, she stepped inside. But before the door of the lift cabin was closed, the lift started moving upwards.
Before she could get herself out of the lift, she got stuck in it and the lift kept on pulling her up.
She was seriously injured in this incident. Seeing this the school staff rushed to help her. She somehow pulled Janelle out of the lift cabin and informed the Malad police. She was then taken to the nearby Lifeline Hospital where she was declared brought dead. Malad Police has registered a case of accidental death and the whole matter is being investigated.
