Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 16,000 crore in Mysore, Karnataka on Sunday. Prime Minister Modi also came out of the car and greeted the people.

The presence of the Prime Minister in Mandya is also important from the political point of view, as assembly elections are to be held in the state in May. Mandya district is a major part of the old Mysuru region and has traditionally been a stronghold of the Janata Dal Secular (S). The district has seven assembly constituencies and all but one are held by the JD(S). The BJP was able to make inroads in Mandya district by winning one seat (KR Pet) during the by-elections held in 2019.

It will act as a catalyst for socio-economic development in the region. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Mysore-Khushalnagar 4-lane highway. Spread over 92 km, this project will be developed at a cost of about Rs 4130 crore. This project will play a vital role in boosting the connectivity of Kushalnagar with Bengaluru and will help in reducing the travel time from about 5 to only 2.5 hours.
