In talks with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, PM Modi encouraged to work on AI tools for good governance

New Delhi: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi spoke to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai on Monday (October 16). During the virtual interaction, both sides discussed a range of issues, including Google’s plans to manufacture laptops in India and setting up its presence in the Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT). During their conversation, PM Modi talk over Pichai Google’s plans to participate in the expansion of the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India.

In the virtual call, the Prime Minister stressed on Google to work on artificial intelligence (AI) tools for good governance. Meanwhile, PM Modi also acknowledged Google’s 100 languages ​​initiative and called for boosting efforts to make AI tools available in local Indian languages. Meanwhile, the PM also invited big tech giants to participate in the upcoming AI summit, which will be hosted by India in New Delhi in December 2023.

According to an official statement, the PM lauded Google’s partnership with HP to manufacture Chromebooks in the country. PM Modi also welcomed the tech giant’s plan to open its global fintech operations center at GIFT City in Gandhinagar.

On the other hand, Sundar Pichai informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Google’s plans to improve financial inclusion in India by leveraging the power and reach of GPay and UPI. He also emphasized Google’s commitment to contribute to India’s development path.

PM Modi has also invited Sundar Pichai to contribute to Google’s upcoming global partnership on AI summit. India will host it in New Delhi in December 2023. Earlier this year, Pichai had met the Prime Minister during his state visit to the United States and then Pichai had said that it was an honor for us to meet PM Modi during his historic visit to America. We told the Prime Minister that Google is investing $10 billion in India’s digitization fund.

Announcement of opening of Global Fintech Operation Center in Gujarat
Pichai said, ‘We are announcing the opening of our global fintech operations center in GIFT City, Gujarat. Prime Minister Modi’s vision for Digital India was ahead of his time; I now see it as a blueprint that other countries may want to follow. The Google CEO had met PM Modi during his visit to India in December last year. Prime Minister Modi had posted on X, ‘Sundar Pichai, it was a pleasure to meet you and discuss innovation, technology etc. It is important that the world continues to work together to leverage technology for human prosperity and sustainable development.

To streamline its policy offerings and improve relations with government officials, Google recently appointed policy veteran Srinivas Reddy as its head of public policy affairs in India.
