Ahmedabad:There was no result in this match which lasted for five days (9th March to 13th March) and both the teams shook hands in the last session of the last day. Team India has won the 4 test match series by 2-1. Australia scored 480 runs till all out in the first innings. In response, India took the lead by scoring 571 runs in the first innings. After this, on the last day of the match, Australia scored 175 runs in the second innings with the loss of 2 wickets.
This could be Smith’s last Test innings on Indian soil. After this the Australian team will tour India in 2027.
The two teams will clash again in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. The WTC title contest will take place at The Oval in London from June 7.
Player of the Match: Virat Kohli
India coach Rahul Dravid: It was a really hard fought series. There were moments where we put under pressure by a really good cricket team, and we responded. When we needed someone to step up, we found it. From Sharma at the first Test and bookended by Virat’s 186 here. For three of the Tests we responded very well. Our fight stood out. Whenever we were under pressure and had out backs to the wall – like in Delhi and here after losing the toss, we had to respond and had to find people to step up and we always found that. People want to take responsibility and we showed fight throughout the series.
Australia captain Steve Smith: It did end slowly. That was a pretty flat wicket that one. It was a really enjoyable series to be a part of. The boys had a great time over here. The hospitality has been outstanding and the crowds have been amazing. It was a really well fought series. I think we started to play a lot better as the series went on.
Indian Captain Rohit Sharma: Was a fantastic series. Right from the word go, how exiciting it was. Lot of the players are playing this for the first time. We do understand the importance of this series and the opposition. Lot of hard work has gone into this. At different times we have come up with answers. We knew how important it was to start the series. Test Cricket is hard fought cricket and isn’t easy. I am quite satsified. I know what kind of benchmark I have set for myself. I keep the personal milestones aside.
