IND vs SA: BCCI receives notice from Kolkata police over alleged cricket ticket Black-Marketing

Kolkata: Amid allegations of ticket touting (selling tickets at higher prices) for the ICC Cricket World Cup match between India and South Africa at Eden Gardens, the Kolkata police have served notice on Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny to provide relevant documents or information regarding the sale of tickets of the ongoing World Cup matches, officials said.

The notice, which was issued late on Saturday evening, asked the BCCI president to submit documents to the officer of the Maidan police station who is investigating the complaints regarding black marketing of the tickets, he said. This request from the police is aimed at ensuring transparency in ticket sales and preventing any illegal activities.

This comes after a complaint lodged by a cricket lover has triggered a detailed police probe into alleged unfair practices in the sale of tickets for the India vs South Africa match, part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

“A notice was sent to the BCCI president, asking him to provide relevant documents and information regarding the sale of tickets either personally or through any competent person of his organisation to the investigating officer of Maidan PS during working hours on Tuesday,” the officer told sources.

Kolkata Police has so far arrested 19 people and seized 108 tickets from their possession, besides registering seven cases in connection with the tickets scalping.

Recently, a man named Ankit Agarwal was arrested for selling the India Vs South Africa match tickets illegally. According to Kolkata police, the tickets worth Rs 2500 were sold at Rs 11,000 each.
