A good news has come for the BJP because independent councillor Gajendra Dalal has decided to join the saffron party ahead of the Delhi mayor's election, which will be held next month on January 6.
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which emerged victorious in the recently held MCD polls, won 134 seats out of 250 councillor seats. AAP has already picked Shelly Oberoi as its mayoral candidate, and it is a challenge for the BJP, which bagged 104 seats, to field a candidate for the crucial post from the saffron party rather than nominating independent candidates.

The elections for both the post-mayor and deputy mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are scheduled to take place on January 6, and it is expected to be a hotly contested affair.
MCD has clarified that the nomination can be filed in the office of the Municipal Secretary on any working day between 11am and 5pm.
The first Municipal House meeting of all 250 councillors who have won the elections from their respective wards will take place on January 6, and on the same day, elections for the six members of the standing committee will also be held.
The election for the top post in the civic body is set to be held nearly a month after the results were announced on December 7.
The post of mayor will be for five single-year terms on a rotation basis, with a woman as mayor in the first year, the second for the open category, the third for the reserved category, and the last two years reserved for the open category.
