India achieves a successful test-firing of the ‘Pralay’ missile off the coast of Odisha

On a successful test-firing mission, India launched its surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) named ‘Pralay’ from the Abdul Kalam Island, situated off the coast of Odisha. This significant event was confirmed by a Defense official.

The ‘Pralay’ missile, which has been meticulously developed by the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is specifically designed to cater to India’s defense requirements along its borders, particularly with neighboring China and Pakistan.

The launch took place at approximately 9:50 AM, and the missile met all its predefined mission objectives. A battery of tracking instruments closely monitored its trajectory along the coastline, ensuring precise data collection.

‘Pralay’ is categorized as a short-range, surface-to-surface missile with a range of 350-500 kilometers. It boasts a substantial payload capacity, ranging from 500-1,000 kilograms. This battlefield missile utilizes solid-fuel technology and is based on the Prithvi Defense Vehicle.

One of the primary purposes of ‘Pralay’ is to be deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the Line of Control (LoC) to strengthen India’s defensive capabilities in these sensitive regions.

The Defense official also noted that ‘Pralay’ can be compared to China’s ‘Dong Feng 12’ and Russia’s ‘Iskander,’ which is known to be currently used in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. It’s worth mentioning that Pakistan also has its own tactical ballistic missiles integrated into its defense system. This successful test-firing of ‘Pralay’ showcases India’s commitment to advancing its defense capabilities and maintaining security along its borders.
