Hardik Pandya himself came to bowl with the new ball and he bowled the second over. However, he proved to be expensive in this over and he conceded 13 runs. But in this over, he dismissed Ireland’s most experienced batsman and dangerous Paul Stirling for four. On the second ball of the over, he got Sterling caught out by Deepak Hooda.
This was his first wicket as a captain in T20 Internationals and he also became the first captain for India to take a wicket in T20 Internationals. But he proved to be very expensive by giving 26 runs in 2 overs. Out of 9 players, who have captained the men’s team in T20Is, Hardik became the first one to take a wicket for India. None of Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant have taken a wicket as a captain.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya had said, “It’s always an honour to lead your country. Who would have thought about this seven months back. Life can change a lot if you put the right mind and if you keep working hard”.
