India hammers Zimbabwe by 71 runs to top Group 2

India outclassed Zimbabwe by 71 runs in a one-sided encounter at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to top Group 2.

Melbourne: The last match between India and Zimbabwe in the Super 12 was merely a formality. India and Pakistan have already qualified for the semifinals.

India outclassed Zimbabwe by 71 runs in a one-sided encounter at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to top Group 2. It was a fantastic morale boosting victory for India before the crucial semi final clash. Indian bowlers bundled out Zimbabwe for just 115 runs. Surya Kumar Yadav was declared Player of the Match for his unbelievable batting.

Indian batters got important batting and bowling practice in the match against Zimbabwe before the knockout clash.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. All the Indian batters did well. Opener KL Rahul scored another half century. Other batsmen also chipped in with useful scores. In fact, the failure of Pant was the only worry for India.

The run riot Surya Kumar Yadav once again mesmerised the Zimbabwean attack. He batted in his usual style and hammered 61 in just 25 balls. In the end, India managed to score 186 for five.

Chasing 187 runs for victory was a daunting task against the Indian attack. The Indian bowlers tightened the screw in the beginning, and five Zimbabwean batters retreated into the hut on 36 runs.

All the Indian bowlers were too hot for the Zimbabweans to handle them properly. It is a positive sign before the semi final clash.

Ryan Buri and Sikandar Raza spent some time on the wicket and put together a 60-run partnership. But India’s victory was written on the wall.
